I've been spending so much time lately posting on Townhall, that I figured I might as well set up a blog. So here I am. I've had great fun "counting coups" with the seminar posters from DailyKos, DNC Central, MoveOn, and their ilk.
I intend to focus primarily on two items: First, the ongoing efforts of the Rockefeller Republicans to follow up their stunning success in nominating the least conservative Republican since Gerald Ford, by redefining "conservatism" as "liberalism lite'; Second, the proper role of faith in politics and society.
I am a recent escapee from the liberal asylum known as "The Academy," where I was a tenured professor of philosophy, ethics, and logic. As a conservative in enemy territory, I learned the importance of respecting differing points of view and fostering rational debate--you know, the things that liberals hate. Forcing liberals to have to debate actual ideas was great fun. It drove them nuts!
That said, I truly do welcome differing opinions, and I almost invariably refrain from making an argument personal unless someone else does so first. That said, I enjoy a good tussle, and will gladly give as good as I get.
I am a committed Christian, but as a former atheist I understand that point of view and will be glad to engage anyone who seriously endorses that irrational and dangerous worldview in a respectful exchange. As used to be said in a different context when I was growing up in New York City, "Some of my best friends are . . ."
Finally, in the grand tradition of Publius, Lewis Carroll, George Eliot, and Krusty the Klown, "Norman" is my "nom de cyber."
I hope that you enjoy my new blog.
